Jeremy Brodovsky

I was reading an article the other day about TEN benefits for exercising. Here goes....what do you think?

1. It Can Make You Feel Happier

There have lots and lots of studies on the effects of exercise and the human body. In addition, there are also studies with regard to the psychological aspects of exercise, and yes it can make you feel happier. Exercise can reduce your stress level plus if you exercise with a friend or workout buddy or group of people--- you can actually have FUN doing it!

2. It Can Help With Weight Loss

If you are looking to lose weight, the MOST important thing to do is work on your diet and your stress levels. In addition though, exercise can help you create a caloric deficit needed to lose weight as well as add lean muscle mass which will increase your basal metabolic rate. That one is pretty obvious. And so is...

3. It Is Good for Your Muscles and Bones

If you lift weights or do resistance training, study after study has shown that this will increase your lean muscle mass as well help your bone density. Period--- that's it. There is no denying this one.

4. It Can Increase Your Energy Levels

Multiple studies in both healthy people as well as people with chronic health conditions (chronic fatigue syndrome, HIV/AIDS, multiple sclerosis, etc.) see increased energy levels with exercise. So no matter where you are starting from, exercise can help you!

5. It Can Reduce Your Risk of Chronic Disease

LACK of physical exercise can contribute to obesity which can lead to hypertension, Type 2 diabetes and heart disease. By doing exercise on a regular basis, you can reduce your risk of these diseases!

These are all great reasons to start or continue your exercise program! If you are a newbie, get started with something that you enjoy doing and will do on a regular basis. Remember this is a long-term commitment that you are making to yourself! So invest in yourself.

If you have been exercising for a while, keep it up! That healthy lifestyle will continue to benefit you as you get older through your 30s, 40s, 50s, 60s 70s and 80s!!! Yes you are NEVER too old to exercise.

Next time we will look at reasons six through ten. Comment below on your reasons for exercising and what you like to do!
